Since 1957 Harley Davidson have been produced a motorcycle titled the Sporster, yet it was not until 1986 that the first Harley 883 rolled off of their production line. Today all come with a larger rear axle which has made the bikes much more stable. They have also spent time on improving the mounting of the engines within the motorcycles. The other main changes that have been made on all the Sportster models and not just the 883 ones is that have a belt drive rather than a chain drive. They come with helical cut transmission gears, which has resulted in a reduction in the amount of gear whine they produce. Then this year they changed the bikes from being carburetted models instead all of the bikes in the range now have a fuel-injected engine instead.
