The 8500 x50 detects all bands of speed enforcement radar including X, K, Ka, and Ku, and is 50% more sensitive (covering greater range) than the older model, the Passport 8500. Furthermore, unlike the old models, the 8500 x50 will pick up Pop radar guns, a relatively new addition to police forces.

Audio Alerts: There are audible and visual alerts.

False Alerts: Incorporates the AutoSensitivity Mode to report less false alerts – but does not reduce those completely. Features: Includes the SmartCord electricity adapter which can be used as a secondary control for the device. Uses Digital signal processing (DSP) for further range. Has a built-In Earphone Jack. Includes the “AutoMute” feature to lower the volume of an alert after some time. Also incorporates EZ-Programming – a feature that allows simple customization of the unit. It is also compatible with the Escort Passport ZR3 Laser Shifter for optimum protection.

Installation: The Passport 8500 X50 is fitted to the windshield, thus, is attached to the windshield by suction cup. Although being a little cumbersome the advantage is that you can take it and use it in other vehicles, motorcycles, etc. In addition, you can purchase an optional visor holder to hide the Passport 8500 X50 on the visor.

In summary: Given all the features the Passport 8500 X50 along with its price, it is clearly one of the better radar detectors available. With so many features (such as the SmartCord controller). And it’s one of the cheapest models.

All in all, the 8500 x50 is recommended. Note that its Blue Display version, has the same functions, is a little more expensive.
